Places to visit

There is a good bus service (with open topped double deckers
during the summer months) to and from Weston-super-Mare that stop outside
The Owl’s Crest.
Many places of interest are within easy reach for the
motorist: Cheddar, with its famous gorge and caves, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury
and Taunton.
The historic City of Bristol, home to Brunel’s
Clifton Suspension Bridge and renowned SS Great Britain – www.ssgreatbritain.org Enjoy
the many restaurants, museums and attractions of the West Country’s
Capital.

The Georgian City of Bath, famous for its
2000 year old spa – www.romanbaths.co.uk and
some of the finest architecture in the world, indeed the entire city has been
designated a World Heritage Site.
The ancient City of Wells, where the magnificent
West front of Wells Cathedral contains the largest gallery of mediaeval sculpture
in the world. Next door the Bishops Palace and Gardens are also well worth
a visit. Here mute swans on the Palace moat ring a bell for food, a tradition
passed down since the 19th century.

Tyntesfield – Wraxall,
nr Bristol
Bought for the nation in 2002, here you can see practical conservation work
being undertaken, though visits do need to be pre-booked. Tyntesfield National trust property was owned by the Gibbs family who also owned the SS Great Britain during the Emigrant time in 1852
Clevedon
Court – Clevedon
A little altered 14th century manor house with a beautiful terraced garden
and fabulous collection of local ornate Nailsea glass.
A little further
away is the village of Dunster, nr Minehead with its charming high
street and National Trust Castle. The castle has impressive 17th century
interiors, wonderful views across Exmoor & the Bristol Channel
and a working watermill.
Hestercombe
Gardens – 4 miles from Taunton
A unique combination of three period gardens, a Georgian landscape, Victorian
terrace and formal Edwardian garden designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and
Gertrude Jekyll. The forty acres of gardens, lakes and woodlands once abandoned
are now being faithfully restored to their original glory.

you prefer shopping, there is The Mall at Cribbs Causeway (junction 17
M5) with over 140 shops under one roof including John Lewis.
Clarks Village at Street, (signposted from junction 23 M5) offering a huge
range of well known brands at factory prices.
For the gardeners Cadbury Garden & Leisure Centre at Congresbury and Sanders
Gardenworld near Burnham are both Award Winning, under 30 minutes from Kewstoke & well
worth a visit.
